SKC CARE / WATER GUIDE
RO, UV and UF Explained
Three technologies with different roles.
Reverse Osmosis
RO uses pressure to pass water through a membrane. Suitable systems can reduce many dissolved salts and selected contaminants. Operating pressure, feed water and membrane condition affect performance.
Ultraviolet treatment
UV exposes water to ultraviolet light to inactivate susceptible microorganisms. Effective treatment depends on system design, water clarity, lamp condition and contact conditions. UV does not remove dissolved salts.
Ultrafiltration
UF membranes filter suspended particles and some microorganisms according to membrane characteristics. They generally do not reduce dissolved salts in the way RO does.
Combined systems
Some purifiers combine several methods, but a longer stage count alone does not prove better suitability. Read the actual model specifications and select a system for your water conditions.
Ask informed questions
Ask which contaminants the model is designed to address, what pretreatment is required and how maintenance affects operation. Do not use a TDS reading as proof that water is microbiologically safe.
